A European handicap is a type of bet that adds a conditional number of games, points or goals to the game result. In this case, an established draw will be taken into account as an outcome, that is, with this type of handicap bet, you can bet on a draw. If, after the application of such a handicap, the event takes place, then this bet is considered to win.
The handicap can be not only negative, but also positive, while a positive handicap allows you to add a conditional number of points to the final result. In case of a negative handicap, the conditional number of points is deducted from the total. If the team wins the score when using the European handicap, then the bet is also considered to win. If the team loses, then the bet is also a loser. In the event of a tie, the bet is the loser, as in the European handicap, a draw is counted as a possible outcome.
As an example, we can consider the following: within the framework of a match between teams A and B, a bet was placed on team B, using a coefficient of +1. The result of the match was the victory of Team A with a score of 2:1, while the bet will be a loser, since the following formula is used for calculation – 2:2 + 1, that is, after adding a conditional goal, the score is a draw 2:2. But with the European handicap, a draw is considered a loss, for the bet to win, the victory of team B, not its defeat, is required.
The European handicap differs from the Asian form quite significantly. When using this type of bet, only whole values are applied, there is no refund of the bet after a draw. This means that the bet can play only if you win, even the use of a handicap in case of a draw does not become the basis for winning.
Bookmakers offering a fairly large list of events can bet not only on favorites, but also on outsiders, that is, the handicap can be positive and negative. Most often, such bets are accepted on soccer matches, that is, football. It is very important not to confuse the Asian and European handicaps when choosing the type of bet, since the system for calculating winnings remains different.
